ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES AND OBSERVATIONS BY RON WELCH❗️

My work is authentically photographing and filming and writing about people, places, things and events and framing that work within projects that I call Studies and Observations.

  • Notable stuff about me before I became who and what I am now (in no particular order):.
     

    • Director of multimedia for a global Fortune 100 consumer products corporation. 
       

    • Freelance photographer shooting Polaroid portraits of fellow servicemen for pizza and beer money.
       

    • Pioneer in using digital media -  photography, videography, animation, software, DVDs, CDs - to change and improve enterprise learning and knowledge management.
       

    • Lifelong photographer starting with a Kodak Hawkeye Brownie camera and black and white film.
       

    • ​Produced a series of sports documentaries which aired nationwide on PBS in prime time.
       

    • World traveler. 
       

    • Recognized by McCann Erickson for some of my digital media work with Coca-Cola. 
       

    • Photography and digital media consultant to businesses such as The Home Depot, 3M and Victoria's Secret, just to name a few.
       

    • Served in the United States Air Force.
       

    • Sr. VP of a firm advising top senior United States Air Force leaders with visual strategic communications.
       

    • Did darkroom stuff  i.e., developed film and made prints and enlargements.
       

    • Educated in Arts, Sciences and Engineering.
       

    • Photography editor for digital and print marketing and advertising campaigns for a global Fortune 500 corporation.

Everybody starts somewhere and my photography journey started when I was about 7 years old with a Kodak Hawkeye Brownie like this and 620 Black and White Film.

Ernest Hemingway famously said, "In order to write about life, first you must live it," emphasizing the idea that authentic writing about life requires personal experience and deep immersion in the subject matter. I'll add to that and say that good, authentic photography requires personal experieince and deep understanding of the subject.
